Organisation History

The concept of AMAN originated in the first quarter of 2018. After over 20 years of community engagement, Ravi Krishnamurthy envisioned creating a hub for the multicultural CALD diaspora. Thus, the Australian Multicultural Action Network (AMAN) was born, inspired by the saying, “I helped a man climb a mountain and found out that I too had reached the top.” The organization was formally structured and registered with the local government in early 2021.

Milestones And Achievements Achievements

2024

2024 began with the National Multicultural Festival followed by the Story Circles initiative, both supported by the ACT Government, CSD, and other government organisations. The initiatives and events are coming along well throughout the year including a three-part symposium, each spanning two days, focused on disability, health networks and other support topics.

2023

Successfully partnered with the Diversity Mentoring Program (DMP) to support aged care providers. AMAN has also begun assisting disability sector through various branching and networking activities. The organization has been instrumental in key events such as the Multicultural Festival, Royal Canberra Show, and Floriade, continuing its signature events since its inception.

2022

Expanded services and partnerships with local multicultural organizations, joining the broader network of ACT peak bodies including CMCF, FINACT, Families ACT, and MARSS. Leveraged these connections to conduct several successful programs. Canberra Sanskrit School is steadily gaining momentum, attracting more interest and participation from the community.

Throughout 2021

Met with ACT government officials to share the concept and secure full support for the symposium, webinars, and workshops conducted in the shared topics such as Seniors Health, Mental Health Awareness, Travel Safety and other related topics. The webinars were particularly beneficial during the COVID slowdown period.

Early 2021

Officially structured and registered with the local government. Additionally, the Seniors Got Talent event gained momentum, with 32 seniors from the Tamil community actively participating in music, sports, and culinary events.

2019-2020

Initiated Community Barter’s Day celebrations at Turner Senior Center, attracting 80 participants who benefited from the event. Launched a bimonthly Autism Awareness Kuthu Vilakku painting initiative as the next continuous program. The COVID pandemic made some activities quite challenging in late 2020.

2018

Concept of AMAN originated, inspired by President’s vision for a multicultural hub.
Extensive community engagement and groundwork to establish the network.
